Be honest; most of us keep our living rooms and other rooms without doors clean so that our guests don’t get a glimpse of how messy our house can get when we don’t have enough time to clean. But when it comes to the bedrooms, guests never know what’s going on behind closed doors. For a lot of us, that comes as a sigh of relief because our bedroom is generally the most untidy room in the house.
But what happens when you get a call from someone to say they’re on their way over and you know you can’t keep out of your room?! You probably have 10 minutes to tidy up and don’t know where to start. Don’t worry; we’ve got you covered! Read on to find out how you can do a quick bedroom cleanup so that no one will suspect it was dirty 10 minutes ago!
1. Panic – No, Prioritize – Yes
Don’t just scramble around your room and grab stuff in a state of panic. Look around and prioritize your cleaning by start with the biggest mess that you see. Clothes are generally the most common offenders so quickly gather them up on one side of the bed. Use the other side of the bed to lay out at least 10 clothing items flat, one on top of the other; then take a clothes hanger and slide it halfway under the bottom item (the first piece of clothing on the bed). Just like that, you’ll be able to have a pile of clothes neatly hung on hanger that you can temporarily store in your closet.
2. Put Things Back!
There are several items that you may use on a daily basis and hence, leave them lying around your dresser or bedside tables. It literally takes a few seconds to put things back where they belong. But when you’re in a hurry, try this. As you quickly make your way around the room picking up stuff, don’t keep opening and closing drawers. Leave them open so that any missed out items can be put away faster; close all the drawers once you’ve put away everything.
3. Quick Surface Dusting
If your room furniture is dusty and you don’t have time for a thorough wipe down or to move things around to wipe underneath them, consider this. Grab an old, worn out sock, wear it on your hand and quickly wipe bare surfaces, between items and curios. It’s the fastest way to dust and also quite effective.
4. Clean the Floors and You’re Good to Go!
You can’t leave out your bedroom floor, especially if it hasn’t been cleaned in a while. Start from one end of the room and follow a cleaning pattern so that you don’t go over cleaned spots and waste time. Side to side is the best way to go about it if you’re vacuuming. As you finish one line from end to end, take a big step back and finish another. You’ll be done cleaning your floors with just enough time to wash your face and comb your hair before your guest arrives!
