Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about booking, pricing, our cleaning services, and what to expect when you hire Long Island Maids.

Scheduling Your Cleaning

Questions about booking, rescheduling, and what happens before your cleaning appointment.

How do I book a cleaning?

You can book online in under 60 seconds using our instant quote form. Just enter your home size, cleaning type, and preferred date. You'll see your exact price before confirming. No credit card is required to get a quote. You can also call us at (516) 699-8406 for Nassau County or (631) 596-0682 for Suffolk County.

How far in advance do I need to book?

We recommend booking at least 2-3 days in advance to ensure availability. For recurring cleanings, we suggest booking your first appointment about a week out. During busy seasons like holidays and spring cleaning, booking further ahead helps secure your preferred time.

Can I book same-day or next-day cleaning?

Sometimes, depending on availability. Call us directly at (516) 699-8406 and we'll do our best to fit you in. Same-day and next-day availability is never guaranteed, but we often have last-minute openings, especially during weekdays.

What cleaning times are available?

We offer morning and afternoon arrival windows Monday through Friday. Morning arrivals are typically between 8:30 AM and 10:00 AM. Afternoon arrivals are between 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM. Limited Saturday availability exists for recurring clients. We don't currently offer Sunday cleanings.

How do I reschedule or cancel?

You can reschedule or cancel by calling, texting, or emailing us. We ask for at least 48 hours' notice. Cancellations with less than 48 hours' notice may incur a fee, as we've reserved that time for you and turned away other clients. Read our full guarantee and policies for details.

Do I need to be home during the cleaning?

No, most of our clients are not home. You can leave a key, provide a garage code, or use a lockbox. Just let us know your preferred entry method when booking. We're fully insured and bonded, and all our cleaners are background-checked, so your home is in safe hands.

What if I have pets?

We love pets. Just let us know in advance so we can note any instructions (like keeping doors closed or avoiding certain areas). If your pet is anxious around strangers, you may want to secure them in a specific room or area during the cleaning. We're happy to work around your furry family members.

How long will the cleaning take?

It depends on your home size and cleaning type. A standard recurring cleaning for a 3-bedroom home typically takes 2-3 hours. Deep cleans and move-in/move-out cleanings take longer. We focus on thoroughness over speed.

What should I do before the cleaner arrives?

Just pick up personal items, clutter, and anything fragile or valuable you'd prefer we avoid. The less time we spend moving things, the more time we spend actually cleaning. You don't need to pre-clean or tidy obsessively. That's our job.

Do you send appointment reminders?

Yes. You'll receive a confirmation email when you book and a reminder the day before your appointment. Recurring clients receive automatic reminders so you always know when to expect us.

Pricing & Payment

Transparent pricing with no hidden fees. Here's how our pricing works.

How is pricing determined?

Our pricing is based on the number of bedrooms and bathrooms, plus the type of cleaning you need (recurring, deep clean, move-in/out, etc.). You'll see your exact price when you book online. No surprises.

Is there a minimum charge?

Yes, we have a minimum charge per visit. This covers the time and travel involved in dispatching a cleaner to your home. The minimum varies by cleaning type and location. You'll see the exact amount when you get your quote online.

Do you charge by the hour or flat rate?

We charge a flat rate based on your home's size and the service type. You'll know exactly what you're paying before we start. No clock-watching, no pressure. We stay until the job is done right.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept all major credit cards, debit cards, and ACH bank transfers. For recurring clients, we securely store your payment method and charge automatically after each cleaning. No cash or checks.

When do I pay?

For one-time cleanings, you pay after the cleaning is complete. For recurring services, your card is charged automatically after each visit. You'll always receive a receipt via email.

Are there any hidden fees?

No. The price you see is the price you pay. We don't add fuel surcharges, supply fees, or surprise charges. If your home requires significantly more work than expected (like undisclosed heavy soiling), we'll contact you before proceeding.

Do you offer discounts for recurring service?

Yes. Recurring clients (weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly) receive lower rates than one-time cleanings. The more frequently we clean, the less time each visit takes, and we pass those savings on to you.

Do you accept tips?

Tips are never required but always appreciated. If you'd like to tip, you can leave cash for your cleaner or add a tip when paying by card. 100% of tips go directly to the cleaner who serviced your home.

What's your cancellation policy?

We ask for at least 48 hours' notice for cancellations. Cancellations with less notice may result in a fee, since we've held that slot for you and declined other bookings. We understand emergencies happen, so just communicate with us and we'll work with you.

Our Cleaning Services

What's included, what's not, and how our different cleaning types compare.

What's included in a standard cleaning?

Our standard recurring cleaning includes all the essentials: dusting surfaces, vacuuming and mopping floors, cleaning bathrooms (toilets, sinks, showers/tubs, mirrors), kitchen cleaning (counters, stovetop, sink, appliance exteriors), making beds, and emptying trash. It's designed to maintain a clean home between deeper cleanings.

What's the difference between standard and deep cleaning?

Deep cleaning goes further. It includes everything in a standard cleaning plus inside appliances (oven, fridge), baseboards, door frames, light switches, ceiling fans, and detailed attention to built-up grime. We recommend a deep clean as your first service if it's been a while, then maintain with recurring cleanings.

What is move-in/move-out cleaning?

Move-in/move-out cleaning is our most thorough service. It's designed for empty or nearly empty homes and includes everything a deep clean covers plus inside cabinets, closet interiors, and all those spaces furniture usually hides. Perfect for getting your security deposit back or starting fresh in a new place.

Do you clean inside the refrigerator and oven?

Yes, but only with deep cleaning or move-in/move-out cleaning. Standard recurring cleanings cover appliance exteriors only. If you need the inside of your fridge or oven cleaned on a recurring visit, let us know and we can add it as an extra.

Do you do laundry or dishes?

We don't include laundry or dishes in our standard services. We focus on cleaning surfaces, floors, and fixtures. If you'd like dishes or laundry added, contact us to discuss custom arrangements for recurring clients.

Do you clean windows?

We clean interior window sills and glass doors as part of our standard service. Full interior/exterior window washing is not included. For comprehensive window cleaning, we recommend hiring a dedicated window cleaning service.

What about organizing or decluttering?

We're cleaners, not organizers. We'll tidy as we go (straightening items on counters, making beds), but we don't reorganize closets, drawers, or storage areas. For best results, declutter before we arrive so we can focus on cleaning.

Do you bring your own supplies?

Yes. Our cleaners arrive with all the supplies and equipment needed. We use professional-grade, eco-friendly products that are safe for homes with kids and pets. If you have specific products you'd like us to use (due to allergies or preferences), just let us know.

Can I request specific tasks or areas?

Absolutely. When booking, you can add notes about priorities or special requests. Want extra attention in the kitchen? Need us to skip the guest room? Just tell us. Recurring clients can also provide standing instructions that we'll follow every visit.

Do you offer post-construction cleaning?

Yes. Post-construction cleaning removes dust, debris, and residue left after renovations or building work. It's priced based on the scope of the project and condition of the space. Contact us for a custom quote.

Do you offer carpet or upholstery cleaning?

We vacuum carpets and rugs as part of every cleaning. Professional carpet shampooing and upholstery cleaning are specialized services we don't currently offer. We can recommend local professionals if you need those services.

What don't you clean?

We don't clean biohazards, hoarding situations, exterior areas (patios, garages, yards), or anything requiring specialized equipment (like air ducts or chimneys). We also don't move heavy furniture, climb ladders over 2 steps, or handle items above 8 feet. Safety first.

About Our Cleaning Team

Who's coming into your home and why you can trust them.

Are your cleaners employees or contractors?

Our cleaners are W-2 employees, not independent contractors. That means they're covered by our insurance and bonding, they receive training, and we're responsible for their work. You're hiring a company, not a random individual.

Do you background check your cleaners?

Yes. Every cleaner undergoes a thorough background check before they're hired. This includes criminal history, identity verification, and reference checks. It's not optional. It's part of our commitment to your safety and trust. Learn more about our credentials.

Will I have the same cleaner every time?

We do our best. For recurring clients, we assign a dedicated cleaner who learns your home and preferences. If your regular cleaner is sick or on vacation, we'll send a trained backup and let you know in advance.

What if I'm not happy with my assigned cleaner?

Let us know. We'll reassign you to another cleaner at no charge. No awkwardness, no drama. We want you to be comfortable with the person in your home. That's non-negotiable.

Are your cleaners trained?

Yes. Every cleaner goes through our training program before they start. This includes cleaning techniques, product usage, safety protocols, and customer service expectations. We don't just hire experienced cleaners and assume they know our standards. We make sure.

How many cleaners will come to my home?

Usually one cleaner for standard and recurring cleanings. For larger homes, deep cleans, or move-in/move-out jobs, we may send two cleaners to complete the work efficiently. We'll let you know in advance if more than one person will be there.

Our Guarantee & Policies

How we protect you, handle issues, and stand behind our work.

What is your satisfaction guarantee?

If you're not satisfied with any part of your cleaning, let us know within 24 hours. We'll send the same cleaner back to address the specific issues at no additional charge. No hassle, no runaround. Read the full details of our guarantee.

Are you insured and bonded?

Yes. We carry general liability insurance, a surety bond, and workers' compensation coverage. If anything is accidentally damaged during a cleaning, you're protected. If a cleaner is injured in your home, our insurance covers it, not your homeowner's policy. Learn more about our insurance coverage.

What happens if something is damaged?

Report it within 24 hours. We'll document the issue, file a claim with our insurance, and work toward repair, replacement, or reimbursement. You won't need to deal with the insurance company directly. We handle it.

What if something goes missing?

Contact us immediately. We take these reports seriously. If an employee is responsible, our surety bond provides compensation. We'll investigate thoroughly and handle the situation professionally.

Do you offer refunds?

Our guarantee is for re-cleaning, not refunds. We believe in making things right through action. If there's a situation where re-cleaning isn't possible or appropriate, we'll work with you to find a fair resolution.

Can I get a Certificate of Insurance?

Yes. Property managers, landlords, and HOAs often request this. Just email us at [email protected] and we'll send you our Certificate of Insurance (COI). More about our coverage.

What credentials does Long Island Maids have?

We're a registered New York LLC, a trademarked business, and BBB accredited. We're also members of professional associations including ARCSI and ISSA. All cleaners are background-checked and our insurance is current. View all our credentials.
