What "Insured & Bonded" Actually Means

These aren't just buzzwords. Here's exactly how each type of coverage protects you when you hire Long Island Maids.

Insured

We carry general liability insurance that covers accidental damage to your property during a cleaning visit. If a cleaner accidentally knocks over a lamp, scratches hardwood floors, or breaks a window, our insurance covers the repair or replacement—not your homeowner's policy, and not your wallet.

Example scenario
"While vacuuming, our cleaner accidentally pulled a cord and knocked a vase off the shelf. We filed a claim with our insurance, and the homeowner received a check for the replacement value within two weeks."

Bonded

A surety bond is a financial guarantee that protects you if an employee commits theft or a dishonest act. If something goes missing from your home and one of our team members is responsible, the bond provides compensation. It's an extra layer of accountability beyond standard insurance.

Why it matters
"Bonding requires background checks and vetting—companies that are bonded have been evaluated by a third-party surety company. It's not just a policy; it's proof that we stand behind our team."

How You're Protected: 6 Common Scenarios

Here's what happens when something goes wrong—and why proper coverage makes all the difference.

Broken Valuables

A cleaner accidentally breaks an antique mirror while dusting the mantle.

Our liability insurance covers the appraised value for repair or replacement.

Floor Damage

A vacuum leaves scratches on hardwood floors that need professional refinishing.

We file a claim and cover the cost of professional floor repair.

Missing Items

A piece of jewelry goes missing after a cleaning visit and an employee is responsible.

Our surety bond provides compensation for verified theft by employees.

Water Damage

A cleaning product is accidentally spilled on upholstery, causing staining.

Professional cleaning or reupholstering costs are covered by our insurance.

Worker Injury

A cleaner slips on wet tile in your bathroom and injures their back.

Workers' comp covers their medical bills—your homeowner's policy stays untouched.

Equipment Malfunction

Our vacuum overheats and scorches a section of carpet.

Carpet repair or replacement is covered through our liability policy.

Insurance & Bonding FAQ

Everything you need to know about how our coverage protects you.

What does it mean for a cleaning company to be insured?

An insured cleaning company carries liability insurance that covers accidental damage to your property during cleaning. If a cleaner accidentally breaks a vase, scratches a floor, or damages furniture, the insurance covers repair or replacement costs—not you. This is different from the cleaner's personal insurance or your homeowner's policy.

What does "bonded" mean for a cleaning service?

A bonded cleaning company has purchased a surety bond that protects you against theft or dishonesty by employees. If something goes missing from your home and an employee is responsible, the bond provides financial compensation. To obtain a bond, the company must pass vetting by a surety company—so bonding also signals that the business has been evaluated for trustworthiness.

Does Long Island Maids have workers' compensation insurance?

Yes. All Long Island Maids team members are covered by workers' compensation insurance. If a cleaner is injured while working in your home—a slip, fall, or any accident—their medical expenses and lost wages are covered by our insurance, not your homeowner's policy. This protects you from potential liability claims.

How do I verify a cleaning company's insurance?

Ask for a Certificate of Insurance (COI). Legitimate companies will provide this document showing their coverage types, policy numbers, coverage amounts, and expiration dates. If a company hesitates or can't provide a COI, that's a red flag. Long Island Maids provides COIs upon request—just email us or ask when booking.

What happens if something is damaged during cleaning?

Report the damage to us within 24 hours. We'll document the issue, file a claim with our insurance carrier, and work to resolve it quickly—typically through repair, replacement, or reimbursement. You won't have to navigate the claims process yourself or file against your own homeowner's policy.

Are individual cleaners insured, or just the company?

Our policies cover all work performed by Long Island Maids team members while on the job. Every cleaner who enters your home is protected under our company's liability insurance, surety bond, and workers' compensation coverage. You don't need to verify each individual—our company-wide policies cover the entire team.

Why does workers' comp matter to me as a homeowner?

If an uninsured cleaner is injured in your home, they could potentially file a claim against your homeowner's insurance—or even sue you directly. Workers' compensation insurance on the cleaning company's side removes this risk entirely. Any workplace injury is handled by the company's policy, not yours.

Do you background check your cleaners?

Yes. Every Long Island Maids team member undergoes a background check before joining. This is also a requirement for bonding—surety companies evaluate the business and its employees before issuing a bond. Background checks are part of our standard hiring process, not an optional add-on.

Protected Cleaning. Peace of Mind.

You deserve a cleaning service that protects your home as carefully as you do. Long Island Maids is fully insured, bonded, and ready to earn your trust.
